5 weeks down, 35 to go

It's already 6 weeks. I am feeling great! I have had some nausea in the mornings and at night, but over all it hasn't been anything like I had envisioned. The worst thing so far has been the heartburn. I have been very tired. I usually come straight home from school and sleep for 1-2 hours each day. Erik has been very helpful, he is going to be such a great daddy!

6 weeks is a major development week. The nose, mouth, and ears are beginning to take shape. He/she has an oversize head and dark spots where his/her eyes and nostrils are starting to form. His/her heart is beating about 100 to 160 times a minute and blood is beginning to course through his/her body.  His/her intestines are developing, and the bud of tissue that will give rise to his/her lungs has appeared. His pituitary gland is forming, as are the rest of his brain, muscles, and bones. Right now, he/she is a quarter of an inch long, about the size of a lentil bean.

We have our first sonogram in 2 weeks. We will hopefully get to hear the heartbeat as well.
